III. Preflight Preparation

A. Weather Information

1. Sources of weather
    b. PATWAS and TIBS
      1) Pilot's automatic telephone weather answering service (PATWAS)
        a) Provided by nonautomated FSS
        b) Recorded telephone briefing
          i) Local area forecast (usually within a 50 NM radius)
          ii) Some also include route forecasts siimilar to TWEB
      2) Telepone information briefing service (TIBS)
        a) Weather and aeronautical information
          i) Area and/or route briefings
          ii) Airspace procedures
          iii) Special announcements
        b) May also include
          i) METARs
          ii) TAFs
          iii) Winds aloft
        c) Use touch-tone phone to select different TIBS briefing areas and/or routes
        d) TIBS information is the same as in a standard briefing
        e) Use as preliminary briefing (not intended to substitute for specialist-provided preflight briefing)
